PLAY EM ALL TOUR POSTPONED

Posted by playemalltour on August 4, 2008

Due to the fuel prices and the record rise in prices for everything we consume the tour will be postponed indefinitely. I of course wish to see this happen, and have worked tirelessly to put this thing together. When I started this effort the budget was 50,000 dollars and that was a shoestring budget at best. Now the estimated cost of the tour is 78,000 dollars! What I dont want to do is get on the road for a few weeks or months and run out of cash. I am working on some alternative sponsorship, but will not know if it will happen for a few weeks. Needless to say that I am very disappointed with this situation, but I am also very gratefull to the sponsors to date and the 200+ discgolfers that have offered to put me up when I am to be on the road. I will update the progress in a couple weeks. THANK YOU EVERYONE, and GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

    Alan,

I just bought one of the fundraiser discs at Dynamic Discs Open (Cedar Hill, TX) as a simple gesture to support what you are going to do. I would like to help in other ways that are more meaningful. What are you travelling in? I’m pretty sure we could setup a network that could pay your cost from course to course, you will just have to be willing to put some extra trust in the DG community. Are you ready?

Alan this is only going to get more expensive the longer you wait. Trust the disc golf community, quit your job and leave tomorrow. We all want to see this happen. I’ll give you $1.00 a course! Send me a bill once every two months and I’ll send you a check or deposit it into your pay pal account or whatever. I’m putting out a call for anyone who reads this, to help get the ball rolling, and pledge what you can to make Alan feel like he can accomplish this exciting concept. This can raise the awareness of the sport and help communities all over the country install courses. This is one of the biggest promotions ever created for disc golf. For crying out loud look at his sponsorship page! If you concider your self a promoter of disc golf, please help in any way you can. Let’s flood his site with support.

    Thanks, Ben Vosper

  4. Thank you Ben for your offer! the disc golf comminity has and does support this idea, the problem is that the companies that will benifit from this the most have offered to do the least. Innova has been great to do a run of Chamion Destroyers, but the other large companies wont get off the dollars, with the exception of Gateway which will do $2.00 per course. I was counting on financing the first 100 days myself with my own money and then the recession hit right after this plan was implemented, so my income that is directly tied to the housing market took a dive and left me with no start up money. I spent almost $6,000 in promotion and preparation for this tour already and I am still in debt for about 2,500 of it. I have not given up, but honestly at this point it will take a huge contribution or a lot of little ones! I love this game and 99% of the people that I have met through it! Peace…..upshot

I’m still good for a $100 of start up cash, Let’s make it happen! You shouldn’t have to use your life savings, or your own cash for that matter.
Another call-Please let Alan know if you can help start it up. Alan, when you get to $50 per course you should quit that job, and play em all! That should keep you going.

  6. Thanks again Ben, It would only take 20.00 per course in sponsorship to make this happen. so there are aprox. 2,500 courses, if an individual were to sponsor .10 per course that would be 250.00 over three years time, sounds reasonable to me. I have secured about 5.00 per course so far, whos next?

I was wondering about when you may project to start touring? I know that you were worried about high fuel prices, but now that fuel is down to the price that it was over a year ago, why not start soon? I’ve already donated, and am willing to again once it gets rolling. I think that as others have said, once you make the plung you will see the donations roll in. I think the more you update the blog, the more pr you’ll get. how’s your rate of donations now compared to when you were getting prepped to go? have you set a now or never deadline? if it’s not feasible, it’s not feasible, and maybe the funds raised would then best be used by EDGE or to start up a similiar disc golf promotion enity. I hope this post wasn’t too negative, I wanna be a cheerleader for your cause.

  8. Grayson the tour is most likely not going to happen anytime real soon. I appreciate your donation and will send it back to you as soon as I decide it is over, the deadline in my mind is the first of the year, I do have some things working, but initial capital has to be in place before it begins. Right now it is not. I am an eternal optimist, anything can happen! Until then I keep playing and promoting this great sport the best that I can. Peace…..upshot
