A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS

Posted by playemalltour on January 25, 2008

I wanted to take a moment to say how much I appreciate all of the support thus far for the PLAY EM ALL TOUR. I obviously have asked for the help of the discgolf community and expected some support. But I must say that I am overwhelmed by the generousity of all the discers out there. I have had dozens of offers to stay with my fellow discgolfers while I am on the road, I have offers to fulfill several of the items on my wishlist on the website, and offers for a ton of gear to use as a means to propell the tour! I am an average discgolfer with a dream to make more people aware of our sport, and thanks to all of you this is a reality. I hope that this becomes something all discgolfers consider helpfull to the sport. Look for a major sponsorship announcment in a couple of weeks! See you on the course. Peace…..

New Course open in Phoenix

Posted by playemalltour on January 21, 2008

los-olivos-and-the-fountain-001.jpglos-olivos-and-the-fountain-004.jpglos-olivos-and-the-fountain-002.jpgSaturday in the park! Los Olivos is the newest course in Phoenix located at 28th street and Indian School road, just behind the Devonshire senior center. Zach Walker of 4handz disc golf designed and installed the course and put up the money for the new baskets! Thanks  Zach! This is a short nine hole course with two pin posistions for each hole. But dont let the short layout fool you, it is not just a walk in the park! This course is in an old olive grove and those olive trees are disc catchers! About 40 people showed up for the Inaugural doubles event. This course will be on the PDGA course directory soon, so I guess the PLAY EM ALL TOUR will have to play this one! Look out for hole number eight. We call it” six olives of death “with a mando between three olive trees on each side with no over the top shot.

WHAM-O CO-FOUNDER PASSES AWAY

Posted by playemalltour on January 17, 2008

Richard Knerr died today he was 82. In 1948 Richard and Arthur”spud”Melin started WHAM-O and the rest was as they say “history”. And what a history it is, how about the HULA HOOP, the SUPERBALL, SLIP N SLIDE, SILLY STRING, and my personal favorite the FRISBEE! These men provided countless hours of relaxation and just plain old fashioned fun. Discgolf’s very own Steady Ed Hedrick worked in R&D and had to find a use for large amounts of surplus plastic from the Hula Hoop fad and the Frisbee was born! THANK YOU ED! THANK YOU SPUD! THANK YOU RICHARD!

2008 TUCSON ICE BOWL

We had eight people camp out the night before, and fourty players signed up! The course was in a extreme location to make up for the lack of extreme temps. We did have a little frost on things the morning of the event, although the high temp for the day was about 68 degrees. We raised about $2,000 for the local food bank, everyone was very generous! Ben Vosper and Tucson Chain Lightning did a great job putting on the event, a good time was had by all (except Pen). Thanks to all that participated, see you next year!

EVERYTHING IS BIG IN TEXAS!

Posted by playemalltour on January 10, 2008

houton-trip-jan-2008-010.jpghouton-trip-jan-2008-001.jpghouton-trip-jan-2008-006.jpghouton-trip-jan-2008-014.jpghouton-trip-jan-2008-003.jpg I went to Texas for a little meeting and got picked up at the airport by a couple of Houston discers. I found some friends on the Houston Flying Disc Society website. John(tye dye) responded to my request for someone to show me some courses. They took me to this little nine hole course in the “Woodlands” area that was awesome. The course is layed out around a huge hill with about a 150′ elevation. The weather was good and the company was great! John brought along his friend Parker(blue shirt) and we played a fun round there. I must say though, only in Texas will you find a couch in the middle of the course! Maybe because you need a place to sit once you climb that big hill a few times! If you ever go to Houston hit up the club at www.hfds.org Those fellers like to disc down there!
